I'd consider myself to be a pretty minimalistic person. There are just a few things/people I need everyday that truly bring joy into my life, my wife, kids, pets, and sketchbook. Truth is, it's just not that easy. I've even tried narrowing it down to a list of 100 things I could ever need.
I think it's healthy to maintain a life with less stuff and more experiences. I also think it's ok to be obsessed, get really excited about things, collecting and curating. And lastly, it's even more awesome when we share these things with people in our lives, which then creates experiences.
I own loads of t-shirts, some I've only worn twice this year and some I haven't worn since high school. But I'm also heavy on which shirts I think belong in my collection. I love great designed shirts, so in a way it's keeping a collection of designs and servicing me being approachable in public.
I look at it this way. It's ok to collect lots of buttons, but keeping the ones that matter the most is a meaningful collection.
